Inclusive Engineering Outcomes - a pilot study
This sits in the lower-middle of the Research & Development band — a mid-scale opportunity. Based on 20,405 valued Research & Development tenders in our corpus.
The Royal Academy of Engineering brings together a community of leaders from every part of engineering and technology through our Fellowship and awardee community in academia and industry; and through our regional, national and equitable global partnerships.
We are the UK's National Academy promoting engineers and engineering through our work in policy, education, enterprise and as global funders of research and innovation (R&I).
As funders of research and together with our partners for this study, the Engineering and Physical Science Research Council (EPSRC), it is our responsibility to support and build an inclusive R&I ecosystem.
Good engineering should always involve inclusive inputs (diversity and representation) and inclusive outputs (technology, products and services accessible for all) but engineers must also consider whether their choices lead to inclusive engineering outcomes, considering how the technology will impact people and the planet from end-to-end (R&D, supply chain, use, and end of life).
This study looks at how we enable inclusive engineering outcomes in the research that we fund, looking for evidence as to the effectiveness of different inputs and outputs in delivering them.
To this end we are looking to engage a supplier to carry out a research brief with the following objectives: - To review the landscape and understand what is currently being practiced. - Create a portfolio of case studies that show both good and bad inclusive engineering outcomes. - Summarise a set of generalised principles that have led to inclusive outcomes. - Provide recommendations to the Academy and EPSRC on next steps.
Suppliers have until 19 January 2024 to submit questions.
Closing date 12 noon on 31 January 2024 Interviews will be held on 19 February 2024 (suppliers will be informed by 9 February 2024 if they have been selected for interview) Details of how to apply can be found on the Academy's website https://raeng.org.uk/about-us/work-with-us/calls-for-proposal Contact Cath Thums research@raeng.org.uk
