001403 National Learning Engagement Programme (LOT 2)
Unlocking Our Sound Heritage (UOSH) is a partnership project led by the British Library and involves ten organisations across the UK.
This project will digitally preserve some of the most vulnerable recordings and, in doing so, establish the infrastructure for our audio heritage to be saved and shared with a wide range of audiences.
UOSH forms part of a core British Library programme, Save Our Sounds, which pledges to preserve the nation's sound heritage.
The Heritage Lottery Fund grant will enable the British Library to achieve key aims of its ambitious Save Our Sounds programme by preserving the nation's most at risk sounds and, delivering online resources and a vibrant programme of activities across the UK, connecting people with their audio heritage.
As part of this project, the British Library will preserve 110,000 physical sound items, and between them the 10 hubs will preserve 50,000.
The recordings that have been selected for preservation are based on a list produced by British Library curators and the hubs during the project's development phase, following our national audit of UK sound collections.
To fulfil this requirement, we are looking for an experienced consultant or team of individuals who are able to work with our staff to evaluate the UOSH activities over the period of the project (next 3 years).
