The brief

Birmingham City Council (BCC) is seeking an organisation to deliver the site remediation of land at the Advanced Manufacturing Hub Plot 2 - Remediation of Concentric Business Park and JB Foods.

The proposed works are located within BCC owned land located off Aston Hall Road, Aston, Birmingham approximately 3.5 km northeast of Birmingham City Centre.

The former JB Foods and Concentric site is currently in the ownership of the City Council.

A contract has been let for the demolition of the existing buildings on site to slab level to create a clear marketable site which will be consolidated as part of phases 1 & 3.

However, due to the previous uses, the site is contaminated and requires remediation.

Ground investigations works carried out have identified widespread contamination of the site by heavy metals and localised hotspot areas of hydrocarbon contamination.

Localised areas of buried Asbestos Containing Material are also anticipated. a controlled waters DQRA has been completed on the Zinc contamination on the site and, subject to the approval of the EA and the LA EHO, this study has shown that these contaminated materials can remain on site.

Therefore contamination remedial works are required for the hydrocarbon contamination only.
