The brief

In collaboration with the Working Group on Effects, the EMEP programme provides scientific support to the Convention on Long Range Transboundary Air Pollution (CLRTAP).

As the source of information on the emission, transport and deposition of air pollution, EMEP plays a major role in informing policy developments under the Convention.

The EMEP programme is coordinated by five programme centres and four task forces.

The centres and task forces report annually to the EMEP Steering Body (SB), which oversees the EMEP programme and reports annually to the Executive Body of the Convention.

The EMEP SB is complemented by the Bureau of the EMEP SB.

The Bureau is elected by the EMEP SB and meets with the representatives of the task forces and programme centres to make strategic proposals regarding the workplan and budget for EMEP.

The Authority intends to fund a Vice Chair to the EMEP Steering Body with a view to supporting the Chair to the EMEP SB with their responsibilities and communicating any policy implications to Defra.
