The brief

Connected Places Catapult is looking to commission research to help shape our engagements in the urban CRE sector.

Commercial real estate is an essential contributor to the life and economy of cities worldwide.

CRE plays a critical role in sustaining local jobs, supporting local economic growth, and ensuring sustainable investment.

CRE developers have increasingly sought to address concerns around environmental sustainability, inclusion, and digitalisation in urban CRE, but this is often overshadowed by pressing priorities such as financial sustainability and the need for affordable housing and office space.

Simultaneously, technological advancements, shifting work dynamics, growing environmental concerns, and economic uncertainty, are demanding transformations within the urban CRE sector.

In this context, the Catapult is looking to commission one or more research studies to explore the challenges and opportunities for innovation within urban CRE developments in the UK, and where relevant, including insights and best practices from other countries.

Focusing on future-proofing the industry while maximising social, environmental, and economic value.

This research will provide vital evidence and insights that will help the Catapult support the CRE sector's evolution, ensuring that it meets future demands while aligning with broader sustainability and inclusion goals.
