The Environment Agency is responsible for the management of The National Tide Gauge Network on behalf of the UK Coastal Flood Forecasting service.
The network consists of c.135 sensors situated at 42 strategically important sites around the UK coastline.
These gauges have a variety of uses within real time operational coastal flood forecasting, flood risk management mapping and planning, and sea level studies.
To ensure that the data are of use and continued value to UKCFF partners as well as the wider community we need to ensure that the continuity of the long-term data record is maintained, quality controlled, archived to a common standard and publicly accessible.
In the coming weeks, The Environment Agency's Monitoring Contracts Team will be going out to tender for the Tide Gauge Data Network: Quality Assurance & Archive contract.
This will comprise of a number of elements encompassing receiving, quality controlling, compiling, storing and publishing data; maintaining site records and producing reports .
