The brief

Lancaster University would like to procure two CNC machines for use in setting up a configurable Industry 4.0 demonstration and teaching space within the Department of Engineering at Lancaster University.

A CNC milling machine, and a CNC lathe are required, with various provisions that will allow integration with other equipment, such as co-bots and additive manufacturing machines, as well as a variety of CNC simulation and programming software packages.

A summary specification is as below but a more detailed specification is described in subsequent sections; o Controller must be changeable between Fanuc and Siemens controller.

Since the equipment will be used to demonstrate to industry as well as training engineers, it is imperative that the majority of controllers used in industry are covered. o Minimum Mill travel of 150x150mm to cover the majority of parts to be machined. o Mill must have 4 axis' minimum. o Automatic tool change of a minimum of 6 tools for both machines. o Full coolant delivery. o Minimum swing of 100mm for lathe.

A 3D scanner is also required that will be used in reverse engineering workflows designed to complement and build on the capacity provided by the CNC machining centres.

The scanner must be of the hand held and portable type with full colour facility.
