014/2017 Health Tech Hub
This is a large award for Construction — above three-quarters of comparable contracts. Based on 64,002 valued Construction tenders in our corpus.
The University will be going out to tender for works that will involve the construction of new Metsec partitions with 'lidded pods' to create new layout of a similar make up to the adjacent Future Space, and associated finishes.
The recently installed M&E infrastructure will be extended to service the Health Tech area, made up of Mechanical ventilation, heating, lighting, power, data, fire alarm and door access.
Specialist services will also be installed to the new Category 2 lab areas, such as natural gas supplies and ducting to the fume cupboards.
The Health Technology Hub vision is to create a national Centre of Excellence in health technologies relating to independent living and home-based diagnostics.
The project will involve the creation of new state-of-the-art facilities providing the necessary equipment and skills to support research and innovation in the field.
A key goal of the Hub will be to create and bring to market new assistive living (independent living) technologies providing better quality healthcare.
The facility will be assessable to businesses, supporting product development, evaluation and trials, reducing the cost and risk associated with product development and thus improving their rate of innovation and reducing the time to market.
The design team are currently at RIBA Stage 4.
The project is being delivered in accordance with the University's policy's, rules & regulations.
The University's Design Guides and Standard Specification have been adopted, with any derogations formally agreed.
The project is being delivered to BIM Level 2+.
Planning for the Health Tech use is already granted and a new Planning Application has been submitted for the new roof mounted flues and supporting structure.
UWE own the building where the new Health Tech Hub will be created and this is located within the Frenchay Campus.
As well as the adjacent occupants, the site wider campus will be in use during the construction period.
The site is located in an unoccupied space within T Block on the UWE Frenchay Campus recently cleared ahead of the project.
Adjacent areas occupied within T block include Bristol Robotics Lab (BRL) and a University Enterprise Zone that has recently been created and was opened in August 2016.
The Enterprise facility is operated by Oxford Innovations and the space is called Future Space.
The adjacent occupants will remain on site during the construction phase.
Refer to floor plan attached.
Construction works within T Block to create a new Enterprise Zone was completed in August 2016 with a further phase of work to provide expansion space within Bristol Robotics Lab completed in January 2017.
With the recent successful bid for further ERDF funding this allows the final phase of work to be undertaken within the remaining cleared and vacant space of T Block.
