The brief

Royal Armouries seeks the services of an interpretation consultant to manage the day-to-day work of the project team, develop the detailed content and oversee its delivery for a high quality and robust interactive gallery in the White Tower at the Tower of London.

The gallery will open in October 2016.

The consultant will be required to provide the services listed below.

The Exhibition Plan will form an important part of the brief as it is this document which must be completed and then delivered.

In general, to act as the client-side Interpretation Manager for the project ensuring that the gallery delivers high quality accessible interpretation through proactive and regular management, attendance and input into the project, content development and design teams.

The consultant will report directly to the Project Director and will represent the client in respect of all aspects of the project.

Specifically, but not exclusively: - Project management – day-to-day management and administration of the content development and design teams and their deliverables reporting to the Project Director at monthly project team meetings; - Interpretation management – to ensure that the exhibition demonstrates good practice in interpretation; - Exhibition Plan – complete the plan including setting objectives for each of the zones and identified exhibits and gain approval for it; - Content development – working closely with the project team develop the detailed content for each of the zones, graphics and exhibits.

This will include the preparation of the Writer’s Brief and detailed briefs, objectives and content for each of the exhibits, all to be agreed with the team; - Text production – to write all text required for the exhibition according to the Writer’s Brief and working closely with the curators to an agreed programme; - Graphic styling – ensure that the graphic styling meets best practice in respect of accessibility; - Best practice – oversee and monitor each exhibit and all graphics to ensure that they meet and deliver the agreed objectives; - Design – to offer detailed and considered comments on all aspects of the design at all stages to ensure that the project delivers its interpretative vision and objectives; - Testing – liaising with the design team to ensure the exhibits are thoroughly tested prior to installation; - Reporting – to report regularly to the Project Director at the project team meetings and on other occasions as required; - Access and diversity – act as advocate on the project and design teams for these two areas to ensure that we meet our objectives; - Project team – regularly attending project team, content development and design team meetings representing interpretative input.
