To understand the state of the oral health of adults, a survey has been conducted every 10 years.
Commencing in 1968, the Adult Dental Health Survey (ADHS) has provided a picture of the oral health of adults who regularly visit their dentist and those who do not.
The most recent survey was conducted in 2009 across England, Wales and Northern Ireland.
The surveys have included a questionnaire survey and dental examination in the survey participants own home.
Planning has commenced for delivery of the next survey in the series.
This will be for England only and will provide national and subnational data at Public Health England centre area level.
