The brief

There are two key requirements; the immediate need is to provide early help to children, young people and their families where they are currently not receiving quality and timely support.

Secondly, we must rethink our early help operating model, de-commission and re-commission a new model that fits in with our partners for 2017 – 2021.

One key element of this work focuses developing a joint commissioning strategy to deliver the Surrey Domestic Abuse Strategy 2012 – 2018.

Domestic abuse can have a profound and lifelong impact.

Too many people are still victims of domestic and sexual violence.

Nationally, the human cost of violence against women and girls is particularly high.

Experiences of abuse have serious psychological, emotional and physical consequences and may contribute to multiple disadvantage, or a chaotic lifestyle involving substance misuse, homelessness, offending behaviour, gang involvement, prostitution or mental health problems.

That 41% of the prison population have witnessed or experienced domestic abuse is illustrative of the wider social harms these crimes cause.
