The brief

Dorset Council is looking for a solution to house their stray dogs.

Under the Environmental Protection Act 1990 Section 149, seizure of stray dogs the Council has a duty to seize stray dogs and house them for 7 clear days, and then if not claimed find them suitable homes.

Dorset Council will as of the 01 April 2024 will not have any facilities to house dogs in kennels for the 7-day period.

Therefore Dorset Council is asking if there is are any business/kennels which can offer a service to care for these dogs for this period.

This could be a for short-term or a more permanent measure.

Any businesses/commercial kennels would have to comply with The Animal Welfare (Licensing of Activities Involving Animals) (England) Regulations 2018 and/or The Animal Welfare Act 2006.

Another option would be for the Council to lease land from a business, where the Council could erect their own temporary kennels and run these themselves.

Dorset Council are seeking Expressions of Interest from any organisation who is interested in providing a solution for our requirements from 01 April 2024.

Interested organisations should contact Dorset Council at dp@dorsetcouncil.gov.uk, no later 26th January 2024, expressing their interest.

This EOI process may or may not result in a tender or quotation process, depending on any EOI returns received by the Council.
