The brief

ScITech, routinely runs a process which provides Letters of Support for academic funding bids to UKRI where research aligns with our priorities.

UKRI thoroughly evaluate all bids, and where bids are successful the major part of the funding is provided by UKRI, with ScITech providing agreed additional funding.

In this case DfT will be match funding two PhD's within the INFUZE programme.

Leeds University is leading on a decarbonisation and behaviour change project called INFUZE - 'Inspiring Futures for Zero Carbon Mobility', which has been recently funded by UKRI to the tune of £7.8 million.

The programme aims to transform the process of understanding, designing and implementing transport system interventions to enable and ensure the rapid transition to zero carbon through accessing mobility on demand.

Exploring what the potential is for moving from systems of individual car-based mobility to systems which are more based on mobility on demand within the zero-carbon agenda.

Impact of the project On successful completion the programme and projects will have developed a new approach to participatory mobility science, generating a unique suite of data-enabled decision tools to identify and galvanise the opportunities for emerging mobility service systems which capture the impact of place, social learning and tipping points.

This could shape the next generation of innovation investments in smart mobility, open up new avenues for the design of shared mobility assests and the connective algorithms that inform on-demand services.

Outputs published It is expected for a number of academic publications throughout the programme/projects.

Each PhD project will also produce a thesis.
