The brief

The Department for Transport works with its agencies and partners to support the transport network that helps the UK's businesses and gets people and goods travelling around the country.

Planning and investing in transport infrastructure to keep the UK on the move, the Department is responsible for maintaining high standards of safety, security, and environmental performance in transport and continuing to improve road safety.

International Vehicle Standards (IVS) division is responsible for the development and implementation of the Department's policy for safer, cleaner and quieter road vehicles.

IVS also leads the development of international and domestic regulations covering vehicle related standards.

This assessment of costs and benefits will be used by IVS to develop policy options for Ministers on how and whether to mandate these or similar technologies for the GB market.
