The brief

Herefordshire Council has committed to resettling 95 refugees in Herefordshire under the Syrian Vulnerable Persons Resettlement Scheme (SVPRS) and Vulnerable Childrens Resettlement Scheme (VCRS).

The first cohort of 60 people arrived between November 2016 and June 2017 comprising of 14 households.

The second cohort of 35 people is arriving between June and September 2018 comprising of nine households.

Successful resettlement of refugees has been evidenced as closely linked to developing independent living skills as quickly as possible.

The families are provided orientation and support during their first year of resettlement through a commissioned service, which includes subcontracted enhanced tenancy support.

The initial orientation and support service will withdraw at the end of the first year of resettlement.

Whilst the families will have made significant steps towards independent living during these first 12 months they will continue to require some degree of support, including enhanced housing management.

This service is for the provision of enhanced housing management during the second and third year of resettlement.
