London Borough of Barking and Dagenham
Beam County Primary School: Additional Toilets/Hygiene Room & Staff Extension
This sits in the upper-middle of the Construction band — a substantial contract for the sector. Based on 64,002 valued Construction tenders in our corpus.
London Borough of Barking & Dagenham is undertaking a project at Beam Primary School in Barking.
The school has been increased in capacity to three forms of entry, (3FE) in response to increased demand for pupil places across the Borough.
The two-storey extension wing has a limited number of fully accessible toilets on both floors that achieve the required pupil/toilet ratio set out in the DfE's area guidelines, however there is a lack of suitably located toilets where they are most needed in the busiest circulation corridors where the whole school population gathers for assemblies, dining and to go out to the playgrounds.
These times are critical to the smooth running of the school day and offer pupils and staff the best opportunity to use toilets without disrupting teaching and learning time.
The school have also reported the lack of a purpose-built hygiene room where children with personal and/or special needs can be assisted with washing and toileting with dignity and privacy.
It is further noted that the existing staff room has never been extended since the school was built in the 1950s and is inadequate for the increased number of staff now working at the school.
Officers have worked with the school's management team to draft an outline plan that will address the shortcomings described above, identifying an area for extension alongside existing toilets and the staff room corridor.
