NOTE: This notice was updated on 06 March 2020 for the following reason: Amendment to closing date.
Original closing date- 16th March 17:00 Amended closing date- 16th March 11:00.(We propose to conduct a near-shore and an offshore static net survey (each of 4 days) in March - April 2020, repeated in August - September 2020, using gill and trammel nets.
The previous common skate survey approach will be adapted to enable a better understanding of not only the common skate complex in the Celtic Sea, but for other threatened sharks, skates and rays (e.g. porbeagle and spurdog).
The new Celtic Sea Shark, Skate & Ray Abundance Survey will collect (by scientists) biological information, including gender and size composition, maturity, and on-deck vitality.
A time-series of catch rates will allow an indicator of stock size of threatened sharks, skates and rays to be developed.
