The brief

W58 Wakefield New Bridge carries the A61 Doncaster Road in Wakefield over the River Calder.

The 5 span bridge comprises a reinforced concrete beam and slab deck of cantilever and suspended span construction on reinforced concrete abutments and piers.

The bridge carries the main carriageway with an attached footbridge on the west side for pedestrian traffic.

The carriageway on the bridge has 2 lanes for southbound vehicular traffic and 3 lane on the northbound side.

The bridge is located in a conservation area.

Some of the fascia panels on the downstream (east) elevation of the bridge have been displaced and lost during flooding conditions.

Loose panels are to be re-fixed and missing ones are to be replaced.

In addition redundant floodlighting is to be removed including supporting brackets and fixings.

Fixing brackets etc. protruded through modified panels at floodlighting position.

The panels in these locations are to be replaced.

It is anticipated that the work will be carried out by use of mobile elevated working platforms within a lane restriction on the southbound carriageway.

No arrangements or consents have been given for working in the watercourse.

Works To Be Carried Out.
