The brief

The Breastfeeding Support Service is being commissioned by Public Health Dorset for an initial contract period of three years commencing 01 June 2022, plus an option to extend for a further two years, making a potential total contract period of five years, ending 31 May 2027.

The area to be covered by the Service incorporates the geographical regions covered by Dorset Council and Bournemouth, Christchurch, Poole Council.

The aims of the service are: • To develop and maintain a breastfeeding support service that helps mothers to continue to breastfeed to at least 6-8 weeks. • To contribute to addressing health inequalities by offering targeted support for mothers least likely to continue breastfeeding, including those aged under 25 years. • To build community capacity and ability through the recruitment of breastfeeding support volunteers and staff. • To create a diverse mix of volunteers and staff, which may include those who have not recently breastfed. • To provide training, support and supervision to volunteers and staff.
