Specialised Commissioning historically funded a small number of clinical registries and audits related to specialised services, with arrangements predating NHS England.
After 2013, NHSE became responsible for several of these databases, though oversight remained regional until 2018/19.
To strengthen governance and strategic direction, funding has since been centralised nationally.
As these registries are essential for specialised commissioning- holding unique clinical data and supporting service identification-approval is sought to extend current funding arrangements for 18 months to ensure continuity and stability.
