Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust has awarded a contract to Mettler-Toledo for the provision of Rainin Pipette Tips.
The LiteTouchSystem (LTS) tips are the only compatible tips recommended by Mettler-Toledo for their Rainin pipettes that have been previously procured.
Alternatives have been reviewed previously however they have been found to be a substandard fit on the Rainin Pipettes.
This would lead to inaccurate test results, assay failures and resulting in the cost and time wastage of diagnostic operation.
In addition, Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust has been accredited by the United Kingdom Accreditation Service (UKAS) for performing at the laboratory process for which these pipettes are used.
According to UKAS the tip designed and identified specifically for the Rainin pipette should be used.
MFT has awarded a contract under The Procurement Act, section 41, schedule 5, paragraph 7 - 'The public contract concerns the supply of goods, services or works by the existing supplier which are intended to as an extension to, or partial replacement of, existing goods services or works in circumstances where - (a) a change in supplier would result in the contracting authority receiving goods, services or works that are different from, or incompatible with, the existing goods, services or works, and (b) the difference or incompatibility would result in disproportionate technical difficulties in operation or maintenance'.
The value of this Procurement is £718,169.19 excluding VAT.
