The brief

Byron's Pool LNR is owned and managed by Cambridge City Council as a popular Local Nature Reserve.

There is a small car park on site accessed via Granchester Road from Trumpington.

The current carpark is a permeable, unmetalled surface on a subbase, but is suffering from the formation of regular potholes.

We request quotes to regrade and surface with Breedon gravel or equivalent within the existing car park footprint, to ensure a level, durable, semi permeable parking solution.

Currently there are no disabled bays marked, we would request the marking by suitable means of two bays for this purpose close to the entrance to the Byron's Pool woodland entrance and adjacent Trumpington Country Park (managed by the Wildlife Trust) The new surfacing needs to tie in level with existing site footpaths and retain set height beneath entrance height barrier.

In addition to these works the council is also seeking a top dressing of existing Breedon gravel pedestrian routes within the site and upgrade to the access and approach to existing recycled plastic fishing platforms and canoe launch points.

There is a fish pass on the reserve in the form of a natural bypass channel around the Byron's Pool weir.

The Council are in the process of contracting enhancement works to this feature in summer 2022 and it is envisaged that the carpark and paths work will be implemented upon completion to avoid disturbance to the new surfaces by plant movement.
