The brief

The Cornwall College Group has successfully bid for funding through the Local Skills Improvement Fund (LSIF) project, which is supported by investment from the Department for Education.

The LSIF project will design, develop and deliver employer-led skills provision in alignment with the sustainable skills needs of local employers in economic priority sectors, whilst enhancing Careers Education, Information, Advice and Guidance (CEIAG) capacity and 'Green Careers' resources for CIoS.

Project Intent: Falmouth Marine School have bid for LSIF revenue funding to continue the development of skill requirements for the Sustainable development funded (SDF) "De-carbonising marine vessels" project.

The initial phase of the SDF project resulted in the development of a dedicated marine electrical classroom and a remote machinery control and bridge simulation suite, a virtual reality suite and the purchase of two Nelson 18 harbour launches.

Requirements: To support the continuing development of the SDF project Falmouth Marine School will utilise LSIP funding to acquire the support of a consultancy role to further develop links with local industries and schools to focus on the development of knowledge and skills to support employment with a focus upon sustainable development within the maritime sector.
