deaerating unit
This tender concerns the design, construction and commissioning of a deaerating unit for the Refractive Index Matched (RIM) Flow Facility.
The working fluid is a highly concentrated solution of Sodium Iodide, 60% in mass, whose index of refraction can be adjusted to match that of solid objects that are made of different types of plastics.
Temperatures range from 15 to 25°C.
Since iodide is a mild reducing agent, it reacts with the dissolved oxygen to give iodine and, as a result, the triiodide anion, which causes the solution to become yellow at low concentrations and red-brown at high.
This has a negative impact on the quality of the optical measurements that are carried out.
Therefore, a deaerating unit is essential to reduce the dissolved oxygen concentration and reverse the reaction.
