The brief

On behalf of SMP Alliance working with Highways England (Costain Ltd, Balfour Beatty Civil Engineering Ltd, BMJV, Flour Ltd, Jacobs, WSP Ltd) we require electrical, communications and technology providers to be appointed into our SMP Alliance.

It should be noted that Highways England shall provide the Smart Motorway Programme Alliance with its Roadside Technology equipment.

Part of this scope is to provide support to the SMP Alliance with regards to installation and commission of such equipment as required by the SMP Alliance.

Providers will be required to have the capacity to deliver nationally.

Terms and Conditions specific to the works will be issued during the tender period for agreement in principle.

To register your interest in these works your organisation must hold as a minimum: Constructionline Gold, Achilles BC Level 4 or CAS 1 day audit Tenders will then be issued with a three week return period.

Scoring will be carried out within 2 weeks of return date.

Requirements are scheme specific depending on power supply locations, verge widths to accommodate equipment and gantry locations.

Solutions are dependent on the carriageway geometry to determine the number, type and location of installations.

The Subcontract Scope for electrical, communications and technology works will be people, sub-subcontractors, Equipment, Plant and Materials to (where appropriate) - Take down existing equipment and return to manufacturer for re-conditioning - Take down existing equipment and remove off site to suitable recycling facility - Supply, install, test and commission technology infrastructure (comms sites, duct network, chambers, cabling, mini feeder pillars) for technology and lighting. - Install, test and commission equipment provided by others (ERT, VMS, HV cabling etc) - Statutory connections and works (Enforcement, DNO & NRTS) - Take down existing proprietary equipment, remove from site to recondition, refurbish or replace. - Supply, install, test and commission proprietary equipment which is not provided by Highways England through its centralised technology contracts - Design, supply, install and test special structures.

In addition to these and in order to reduce interfaces and make efficient use of the site working space; the following packages are considered for inclusion in the Technology Category: - Supply & installation of street lighting - Isolate from mains power, disconnect and take down lanterns and lighting columns. - Supply, install lighting columns including cabling from DNO supply interface to columns - Supply, install, FAT, SAT, commission lanterns - Isolate from mains power, disconnect and take down lit signs - Supply, install, FAT, SAT and commission lit signs - Supply & install sign posts and faces. - Supply, install and test cross carriageway ducts.
