The brief

We will be awarding a contract for the design and build of a new timber framed coppice shelter located in Silk Wood at Westonbirt Arboretum.

The new shelter will help us continue the critical programme of woodland management and secure the future of coppicing at Westonbirt.

The new shelter will provide cover for our coppicers which will enable them to undertake tasks in all weather and allow them to store materials and products associated with the coppice.

The Contractor is required to design and build a new shelter which will be made from timber grown and milled at Westonbirt.

The shelter will be similar in style to other buildings at the arboretum such as the Silkwood Barn and the Westonbirt Woodworks.

The building will be of oak frame construction, traditionally built with a boarded timber roof.
