The brief

Royal Armouries is running a tender exercise for the refurbishment of the interactive displays at our Leeds site, known as ‘Hands on History’.

This will include refurbishing the four interactive pods in the War Gallery at the Royal Armouries Museum.

This project concerns the four interactive displays in the War Gallery located on Floor 2, which have fallen in to disrepair and are in desperate need of refurbishment and in some cases re-building.

We want to update the graphics and feel of the pods but keep the same text and mechanical intent as is currently on display.

It is essential that these interactives are safe, robust and are built to withstand the rigors of visitor interaction seven days a week.

The safety of all users is a key priority on this project.

Royal Armouries will provide images, film and text content where applicable and may be able to help source specialist pieces of weapons and armour, however the tenderer is also required to include the provision of sourcing the items within their submission.

We envision that this work be undertaken over the winter period whilst the galleries are quiet.

Where possible we envision the work will be carried out off site with reinstallation occurring during working hours, although loading and unloading of bulky items must occur before or after opening hours.

The museum is open to the public 7 days per week between the hours of 10.00am to 5.00pm.

The successful supplier will have to provide equipment to ensure the installation can happen whilst open to visitors (i.e. barriers, lockable tool boxes etc.).

However, Royal Armouries will assist with access and materials storage wherever possible.
