The brief

The HS2 Project aims to provide a legacy in terms of improving health, from prevention of ill health to improving functional fitness amongst the workforce.

Increasingly, occupational health is adopting a wider scope which can be encapsulated as the effects of health on work – and the effects of work on health.

The aim of this project is to develop systems and procedures which will be applied by third parties to not only provide and maintain a healthy work environment, both during the build and the operation of the rail system, but to take account of the health of the workers on the work being conducted.

The key deliverables envisaged are as follows: • Deliverable 1 - Development of health by design tool • Deliverable 2 - Development of generic health risk assessments • Deliverable 3 - Development of a sustainable health metric indicator tool • Deliverable 4 - Development of health sampling/monitoring/assurance strategies • Deliverable 5 - Identification of deleterious substances/materials • Deliverable 6 - Deleterious substances/materials findings report including restricted materials list
