Specification for carrying out works to remove scrub on 116 ha Thorne and Hatfield Moor formerly milled peat workings near Doncaster, South Yorkshire The Humberhead Peatlands are the UK’s largest lowland raised bog complex in the UK.
They are designated under the EU Habitats and Birds Directives as part of the Natura 2000 network of sites.
The “Restoring Humberhead Peatlands: LIFE+ Project” (THAT’S LIFE) aims to restore the bogs of Thorne Moors Special Area of Conservation (SAC) and Hatfield Moors SAC to allow the sites to achieve favourable SAC status; to increase the population of breeding Nightjars on the Thorne and Hatfield Moors Special Protection Area (SPA) and; to work with local communities to increase awareness of the importance of these sites.
