The brief

The £60m scheme consists of the refurbishment of Claremont Tower, Bridge and Daysh buildings into a single building complex which is to be known as the Henry Daysh building.

Upon completion it will accommodate the HaSS faculty office, the Schools of Architecture, Planning and Landscape, Geography, Politics and Sociology, and Combined Honours.

Additional space is allocated for teaching and learning, a doctoral training centre, exhibition and social spaces.

The Claremont tower is 11 floors high with additional ground and basement levels.

Floors 6 and above are serviced only via 2No new lifts that are part of the construction contract.

The Bridge is 5 storeys high (but is on levels 2-6 only) and can be accessed either by its own lift, or via those in the tower.

Daysh will be accessed via its own lift and via a new larger lift that is part of the phase 2 works or via those lifts in the tower.

Phase 1 (Tower and Bridge) is currently under construction by Sir Robert McAlpine.

These works are due to be complete on 20th December 2019, but furniture installation is to be agreed in advance of this date, (mid October - December), however this is subject to change and will be agreed in advance with the appointed supplier, Newcastle University and Sir Robert McAlpine.

Phase 2 (Daysh building) is due to commence in February 2020 and complete in March 2021, but furniture installation is to be agreed in advance of this date, (February - March 2021), however this is subject to change and will be agreed in advance with the appointed supplier, Newcastle University and Sir Robert McAlpine.
