Lancashire County Council is to undertake the construction of a new railway station at Cottam Parkway on the Blackpool to Preston Railway line.
The new station will deliver improved journey times to Preston and Blackpool and provide access to rail transport for commuter travel to jobs, business and leisure.
It will also reduce congestion into Preston City Centre by providing a park and ride facility.
The improved rail access will also support the delivery of new homes in north- west Preston providing a rail service to a catchment area of around 12000 homes and will connect to the new Preston Western Distributor road scheme which is currently under construction.
Lancashire County Council intends to award a contract for the design and construction of the railway station and associated structures to Network Rail Infrastructure Ltd.
