The aims of the framework include: •Continued improvement of nutritional quality and consistency of school meals across Southwark •Tackling disadvantage and reducing inequalities •Enhancing social value through job creation for local people, payment of London Living Wage (LLW) and supporting the local economy •Realising the opportunities for meeting the Council’s social value, food security, environmental sustainability and climate emergency agenda.
Within Southwark, there are currently 4 nursery schools, 74 primary schools (including 3 special schools) and 25 secondary schools (including 5 special schools): •The value of the school meals market in Southwark is estimated at around £8.3m (primary) and £5.3m (secondary) annually •Currently, most school outsourced contracts are for a single school, rather than a group, each with different contract terms •Most contracts are currently two to three years in duration, not all schools will require a contract at the same time The maximum framework term will be 4 years, this includes the initial contract term and the option to extend.
Estimated potential sales value of the framework is £4m over the 4 years.
