The brief

This process is being carried out in accordance with the procedure for 'Direct Award Process B' under Regulations 6 and 8 of the Health Care Services (Provider Selection Regime) Regulations 2023.

For GPs and other Primary Care settings, under the Public Health Enhanced Services (PHES) in primary care offer, there is the opportunity to provide the delivery of Long-Acting Reversible Contraception (LARC) for contraceptive purposes, which is outside of the GMS contract.

The opportunity does not alter the requirement laid out in the GMS contract for all practices to ensure the routine offer of first line contraceptives; including the provision of general sexual health advice, barrier contraceptives, oral contraceptives and the contraceptive injection.

The aim of this service is to provide an accessible, high quality and effective service for the fitting, follow up and removal of LARCs, including SDIs and IUD/IUSs.

Under the same PHES primary care offer, there is also the opportunity for GPs and other Primary Care settings to provide access to the Provision of Chlamydia and Gonorrhoea Screening (for young people aged 15-24 years) and Treatment of Chlamydia.

For Pharmacies and other community health and wellbeing settings, under the Public Health Enhanced Services (PHES) offer, there is the opportunity to provide access to the provision of Chlamydia Screening (including Gonorrhoea) and Chlamydia Treatment to 15-24 year olds (and above 25 years for partners).

The aim of this service is to improve access to the high-quality provision of Chlamydia screening (including gonorrhoea) and treatment of Chlamydia infection.
