We aim to ensure that when the right to an independent lifestyle, autonomy and liberty are at risk, the individual concerned receives appropriate help including advice, protection and support from relevant agencies, in particular Independent Professional Advocacy.
Access to independent professional advocacy is recognised as contributing to health and social care policy goals such as health improvement, equity and involving individuals as partners in a mutual NHS and social care setting.
There is a requirement for the service to meet legislative requirements, including Adults with Incapacity (Scotland) Act 2000, The Community Care and Health (Scotland) Act 2002; Public Joint Bodies (Scotland) Act 2014; Social Work Scotland Act 1968; Equality (Scotland) Act 2010; Human rights Act 1998; Adult Support and Protection (Scotland) Act 2007; The Patient Rights (Scotland) Act 2011; The Social Care (Self-Directed Support) (Scotland) Act 2013.
