The brief

There are currently two family centres in West Cumbria (Carlton Road, Workington and Wedgewood Centre, Whitehaven) which provide supervised contact between family members and children from newborn to age 18.

Both of the buildings which house the centres are in in need of modernisation.

In addition, the family centre at Carlton Road is a 3-storey Victorian semi-detached house which is no longer fit for purpose.

After extensive consultation with the Service provider, it has been agreed that the family centre based at Carlton Road will be relocated to a new purpose-designed building and the building forming the Wedgewood Centre will be refurbished.\r \r Cumbria County Council is now seeking to appoint a consultant to provide all services needed to progress the projects listed below through RIBA Stage 3: Spatial Coordination, Stage 4: Technical Design, Stage 5: Construction and Stage 6: Handover:
