The brief

Merseytravel are planning to replace a redundant and obsolete Public Address Voice Alarm System in the Kingsway and Queensway tunnels.

Merseytravel are looking to engage a supplier who has experience of the design and implementation of VA system in a road tunnels environment.

The supplier will design and build a new VAS for the Kingsway and Queensway road tunnels.

The voice alarm system will allow either of the two control centres to provide Voice Alarm and information during an emergency.

The Kingsway tunnel is 1.8Km long and is a double bore tunnel with two, two lane carriageways one in either direction.

The Queensway tunnel is 3.2km and is a single bore tunnel with four lanes of traffic two in each direction.

On completion of successful installation commissioning and site acceptance tests the supplier will provide a three year support contract to maintain the system through a bedding in period.

This will include an option to extend the support period into a fourth year.
