The brief

Richmondshire District is situated in the North Western part of north Yorkshire and covers an area of approximately 509 square miles, the area is predominantly rural in character, the principal towns being relatively small (Richmond, Leyburn, Hawes and Catterick Garrison) Richmond District Council is responsible for the management and maintenance of their public lighting.

The Public Lighting Section based at the Mercury House in Richmond has overall responsibility to ensure that maintenance and new works is run in accordance with the Council's lighting policy.

The Council has approximately 1,800 lights throughout the district, that are divided between 6 maintenance areas, this allows the work to be easily planned and programmed.

The Councils lighting stock is varied to meet the needs and character of the district with a large area of Richmondshire being within a conservation area.

The contractor's objective is to maintain and repair the Councils Public Lighting throughout the district, carryout works to replace and renew public lighting in accordance with improvement and part night programme.
