The brief

Final date and time for the submission of bids is Monday 6th February 2017 at 14:00 Please submit through CCS eSourcing Portal and not directly to buyer.

Brief Scope of Requirements 4-port Network Analyser for Characterisation of CLARA RF Components.

STFC Daresbury Laboratory is seeking to purchase a vector network analyser to characterise radio frequency cavities and components for the CLARA (Compact Linear Accelerator for Research and Applications) accelerator.

The CLARA RF system consists of a number of megawatt pulsed RF systems operating at 2998.5 MHz or 11994 MHz driving normal conducting copper cavities.

Cavities are either travelling wave or standing wave resonators and are driven through a waveguide network including splitters, switches and circulators.

The cavities and waveguide network components must be fully characterised at low power before and during the installation phase of CLARA.

This specification concerns the purchase of a vector network analyser to perform characterisation of RF components including high Q resonators and waveguide components at frequencies from 500 kHz to 18 GHz.

The instrument should have 4 ports with SMA or 3.5 mm connectors and be able to perform and display complex S-parameter measurements.

All ports must be source ports.

This will enable full characterisation of high Q structures including measurement of resonant frequency, coupling, and quality factors.

Time domain measurement is required, specifically to perform perturbation measurements where the effect of a moving perturbing object in the resonant structure is recorded.

The instrument should be remote controllable via a computer and able to output data to computer.

1 Essential Technical Criteria 1.1.

S-parameter measurements at frequencies between 500 kHz and 18 GHz with 1Hz frequency resolution.

1.2.

4 source ports with SMA or 3.5 mm connectors.

If connectors are 3.5 mm SMA adaptors to be provided 1.3.

Time domain measurement enabled 1.4.Dynamic range of >110 dB.

Higher range is desirable 1.5.≥ 10 dBm output power 1.6.Trace noise ≤0.005 dB rms 1.7.

Computer controllable via GPIB, USB or equivalent 1.8.At least 1000 points per sweep 1.9.Peak/trough detection in S-parameters and tracking and bandwidth calculation 1.10.Ability to use external oscillator reference source 1.11.Ability to perform additive S-parameter measurements in both phase and amplitude for S-parameters from multiple ports.

1.12.Supports SOLT/TOSM calibration 1.13.Compatible electronic calibration module available.

Pricing to be provided for information only.

2.Desirable Technical Criteria 2.1.Multiple s-parameters to be displayed simultaneously i.e. interlaced measurement.

2.2.National Instruments LabView drivers available.

2.3.Time resolved feature tracking.

Instrument to be able to track and display S-parameter peak/trough features ie. min, max, frequency in the time domain.
