The British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC)
BBC Public Service Data Platform - Request for Information (RFI)
This notice is for a Request for Information ("RFI") that will help the BBC understand the software capabilities available to support a self-service data platform that is being developed by BBC Public Service.
The scope of this Request for Information is within the public service arm of the BBC, which currently operates with a centralised data platform team that supports, owns, and maintains infrastructure for collection, storage, transformation, and exposure of data to the rest of the organisation.
The vast majority of requests for new data and products from the data are funnelled through this centralised team, who often do not own the domain knowledge for many of the datasets.
As part of the data transformation programme, the BBC is moving to a data mesh structure, in which the central platform team will provide the core data capabilities that can be reused by the rest of the organisation to self-serve their data needs.
This will help the data platform to efficiently scale in a cost-effective manner to meet the growing data demands of the organisation and its vision.
The BBC is requesting information regarding products and services in the market to deliver these core data capabilities in a data mesh structure.
The BBC is looking for information regarding the following capabilities (Note: You may submit a response for one or more of these capabilities): 1.
Data Governance and Data Quality tooling.
2.
Self-service ELT and ETL data pipeline capabilities.
3.
Tooling and infrastructure to provide and/or support for data transformation, aggregation, segmentation, and machine learning.
4.
Data Visualisation Capabilities.
5.
Metrics Layer capabilities.
6.
Data Storage capabilities.
For the avoidance of doubt, any information provided to the BBC in response to this RFI will be treated as confidential and non-binding.
No contract will be awarded as a consequence of this RFI process.
Should you choose to respond to this RFI the BBC will take on board all responses when shaping any potential future procurement activity.
