Population Needs National/local context and evidence base The creation of Community Diagnostic Centres (CDC's) was recommended following Professor Sir Mike Richards' Review of NHS diagnostics capacity.
The recommendation was that NHS organisations across England move to providing diagnostic services in CDC's and all health systems are expected to include a network of CDC's as part of their health services offer.
In 2021, Mexborough Montagu Hospital (MMH) was selected to host one of a pair of CDC's within South Yorkshire, following a £3 million investment from the South Yorkshire and Bassetlaw Integrated Care System.
In November 2023 phase 2 of the CDC opened in MMH providing a fully functional endoscopy suite, with training facilities and multifunctional clinic rooms including ultrasound facilities.
Once completed, in late 2024/early 2025, the CDC will also provide Computed Tomography and Magnetic Resonance Imaging facilities.
This service specification relates to the provision of the Non-Obstetric Ultrasound (NOUS) element of the CDC imaging service only.
