The brief

PLEASE NOTE: This tender is a replacement of a previous non-OJEU tender.

During the previous tender period the value of the project escalated over the OJEU threshold.

This tender has been published under the OJEU accelerated procedure, no alterations have been made to the scale or scope of the project as previously published.

ORIGINAL NOTICE: Wealden District Council is seeking to appoint suitably qualified and experienced contractors for the construction of a new modern multi-faith crematorium.

It will include a Chapel to seat over 120 mourners, a Flower Court and a landscaped Garden of Remembrance.

Provisions also include car parking for 150 vehicles and a separate waiting area.

Works also include a new access of the A267.

In the past the residents of Wealden have always had to travel outside the District to attend cremations.

As pressure on these services grows, there is an increasing need for local families and friends to be able to mourn their loved ones in an unhurried, peaceful setting, without the additional stress of travelling long distances.

The contemporary single storey design will use stone, glass and water to provide a contemplative setting within the folds of the local landscape.

The new crematorium will be constructed at Horeham Flat Farm, Chiddingly Road, Horam, East Sussex TN21 0JL.

Works are anticipated to begin in October with an anticipated contract length of 60 weeks.
