The brief

The Department for Business, Energy, and Industrial Strategy (BEIS); Office for Product Safety and Standards (OPSS) is an appointed market surveillance authority, responsible for (via the Secretary of State) enforcing the General Product Safety Regulations (GPSR) within the UK.

Suppliers are strongly encouraged to read the text at the following link to gain a full understanding of the enforcement services role within BEIS OPSS: https://www.gov.uk/guidance/national-regulation-enforcement-services BEIS OPSS require a supplier/s to carry out product safety tests across a range of various product types to assess a baseline level of non-compliance, the results of which will help to inform future decision-making and potential further action.

Main Testing Requirements Electrical Equipment (Safety) Regulations 2016 To perform testing on up to a total of 100 battery chargers to verify compliance with the above-mentioned Regulations (and any amendments to these): EN 62368-1:2014+A11:2017 Labelling assessment - Visual check according to regulation o Reg 6 &39 CE (or UKCA mark) o Reg 8 Type, batch or serial number o Reg 8 Manufacturer name, trade name or trademark o Reg 8 manufacturer address o Reg18 Importer's name, trade name or trade mark o Reg 18 Importer's UK/EU address Safety testing - Clause 5.3: Protection against electrical energy sources - Clause 5.4.9: Electric strength (without humidity conditioning) - Clause 5.4.2 and 5.4.3: Measurement of creepage distances and clearances The test methods applied should follow designated standards; the reference numbers of which have been published on www.gov.uk, or other reliable, accurate and reproducible calculation and measurement methods, which considers the recognised state of the art.
