PLEASE NOTE - THIS IS FOR TRANSPARENCY PURPOSES ONLY, ONLY CAPABLE SUPPLIERS UNDER THE DIGITAL SERVICES FRAMEWORK WILL BE INVITED TO BID Army Information Services (AIS) is a branch of Army Headquarters based in Andover, Hampshire.

The mission of AIS is “to deliver coherent through life IT services to the Army, and wider Defence, to enable Army Board Strategic Objectives.” To achieve this mission, AIS provides IT application development on the Army’s Hosting Environment, and a limited number of web applications on a separate internet hosting environment.

AIS have a portfolio of successful Oracle Apex, PHP and .NET applications developed in-house that support Army branches and their business processes, families of serving personnel and Army industrial partners on the Defence Gateway (DGW).

This capability is expanding, requiring technical experts to support existing applications and architecture but also to deliver further capabilities in the future.

This includes developing and maintaining through-life, a range of bespoke applications and services run for ArmyNet, and web applications hosted on the Joint Server Farm provided through Rackspace.

These applications are developed and maintained through-life, by the AIS Web Services team.

An additional Microsoft .NET developer is required to work within the AIS Web Services team.

The Microsoft .NET developer will be required to work on the following tasks: • As part of a small team, work on the design and architecture of cutting edge web applications using the latest Microsoft technologies to deliver secure and high performing applications. • Develop and maintain an intimate familiarity with the DGW and ArmyCMS functionality, and the services both provide. • Know and understand the security requirements of the DGW and its content. • Develop applications so that they are not susceptible to Penetration Testing by employing a range of techniques including, yet not limited to, SQL Injection and cross site scripting. • Provide through-life support, and enhancements, to the DGW on the basis of a good knowledge of programming languages; the technologies involved; and the platforms on which the applications are hosted. • Write and produce relevant technical design documentation to support applications based upon direction of SO2 Web Services, and to the standards specified by the AIS Software Development Standards and in support of the ITIL Service Design Pack (SDP). • To provide expert advice and opinion in understandable terms on the DGW and more broadly on the pros and cons of web technologies, to non-technical managers.

It is essential the selected incumbent has the following skills: • Knowledge, experience and demonstrable ability in VB/ C#/ ASP.Net (VS 2013 including Authentication / Authorisation / Web Services / AJAX / State Management (Application, Session, Cache, Cookies) / Web Farm Deployment). • Knowledge, experience and demonstrable ability in Net Framework Versions (4.5).
