A provider is needed to deliver (possibly free to access) and evidence-based training for stop smoking practitioners and other health professionals across England in order to maintain and improve standards of care.
It is anticipated that in the region of 3000 healthcare professionals will receive training meeting quality standards to be agreed with the provider.
Training is expected to be reflect NICE public health guidance, MHRA licensing terms and other research relevant to excellence in delivery and the supplier will be expected to develop training in areas as and where practice develops.
All training to be in line with the evidence based competences recommended for delivery of behavioural support for smoking cessation and the established training standard for stop smoking practitioners.
The provider will be required to administer an assessment and certification system as a quality assurance measures for individual smoking/health practitioners and to ensure that the public are protected from poor practice.
The provider will also act as a specialist resource to practitioners and managers answering any questions they might have on their practise or on evidence related to best practise and to provide impartial support to commissioners within Local Authorities or CCGs.
