The brief

The requirement is for Pre-Hospital Emergency Care (PHEC) acute trauma clinical training placements in support of the Defence Medic Phase 2 programme.

The Defence College of Health Education and Training has a need to accredit the new Defence Medic Phase 2 programme with a nationally recognised Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) Level 4 award.

Health Education England (HEE) is mandated by the Government to work with the MOD ‘to enhance the existing capability of the Defence Medical Service’.

EMT Level 4 is considered by HEE and the Defence Medical Service to be the appropriate award.

NHS Ambulance Services are the only suitable setting for acute trauma clinical training placements.

Significant efficiencies can be achieved by using the Association of Ambulance Chief Executives (AACE) to act as broker to arrange the placements across all full and associate members rather than separate contracts within each.

These placements will be run in accordance with the strict guidelines issued by HEE and attract the standard national tariff.
