The brief

The Pinpoint System is a multifaceted security system which uses Personal Infrared Transmitters (PITs) allowing staff to easily and discreetly activate calls for Assistance and Emergency.

The PIT is a discrete small fob that staff can have in their pockets; on lanyards attached to their staff badges.

When a call is activated, Alphanumeric Display Units emit an alarm tone and pinpoint the exact location and type of call.

This information can also be relayed to a range of devices such as pagers; mobiles and PC's ensuring response staff can identify both the type and source of call quickly.

Intelligent infrared capabilities mean that the Pinpoint System takes less than 85 milliseconds from activation to display.

Currently Pinpoint Systems are used at Gartnavel Royal Hospital and Stobhill Hospital at the Kelvin, Clyde, Iona and Tate Wards and at Skye House and Eriskay House Respectively.

This is a closed protocol system and is one that has been in place for a number of years.

Consequently, the staff security alarm system is a service which is already in place and is a closed protocol system.

To change this system would cause a significant amount of disruption to NHSGGC Staff and Patients.

Therefore the best course of action to insure compliance with procurement regulations, and ensure the continued maintenance of these systems, is to publish a voluntary ex ante transparency (VEAT) notice.
