The brief

This project will aim to understand how OMPs, ITPS and existing tools/enforcement operate in order to more clearly define the problem and identify options for a digital solution.

It will review OMPs, including their operational/technical workings and the interactions between OMPs, Independent Third-Party Sellers (ITPS) and products to identify potential options for a digital solution which could combat the sale of unsafe products online.

The aim of this project is to examine the potential for developing a digital solution to combat the sale of unsafe products online and to determine the requirements for such a solution.

This should be achieved by examining OMPs, ITPS and products sold online from a product safety enforcement perspective, with a view to then applying this knowledge into developing technical approaches to combating the sale of unsafe products online.

The outputs from the research will also inform other related OPSS activities in this space, including through identifying where technical approaches may not be the most effective approach.
