This is a large award for Construction — above three-quarters of comparable contracts. Based on 64,002 valued Construction tenders in our corpus.
The Council will enter into a lease of land with an existing vehicle workshop building at Spitfire Way in Manston on the B2190 as the Council requires a new vehicle maintenance workshop to enable it to maintain its fleet of 113 vehicles (with 41 of these being classed as HGVs) in accordance with good practice and the law.
Most of these vehicles are used to deliver the statutory waste and recycling and street cleansing functions of the Council and it is essential that the Council has a fit for purpose workshop to allow maintenance obligations to be met.
The Spitfire Way site and workshop was the previous maintenance base for airport fire engines – it is, therefore, purpose built for HGV maintenance activities and already has vehicle maintenance pits present on site.
However, some modernisation and enabling works are required before the workshop building can be put into service.
The Council is, therefore, looking to appoint a suitably qualified and experienced Supplier to carry out the Works.
The Works will not result in a material change to the building and are considered to constitute permitted development by virtue of Schedule 2 Part 2 Class A (means of enclosure) of the Town and Country Planning (General Permitted Development) (England) Order 2015.
However, the Supplier will be required to obtain Building Regulations approval.
