The brief

In Sheffield, there is a shortage of places within schools for children with Special Educational Needs & Disabilities [SEND] and insufficient Integrated Resource [IR] provision in mainstream schools.

The number of IR's in the north of the city needs to increase to meet the growing needs of SEND learners (particularly within this locality), and this additional provision is required by September 2023.

Therefore, in order to facilitate the aforementioned additional provisions at this particular site, a design solution was settled upon which comprises the construction of a new pitched roof extension, along with internal remodelling of a portion of the existing building to facilitate access to the new extension.

Mechanical and electrical supply services will be extended from the existing utility supplies and the existing drainage installation will be adapted to suit the new extension.

It is anticipated that the new facility will address the requirements of the provisions and create 8 - 10 educational IR places.
