The brief

BIS Research & Evaluation Framework Lot 1 The gig economy is an emerging and rapidly developing area.

The gig economy comprises of individuals finding work via online employment platforms eg.

Uber, Taskrabbit.

The Government is interested in understanding the role of this new way of working, how many people are finding work in this way, what role skills and training have to play in the gig economy, and the experiences of those who have found work through the gig economy.

Therefore the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy is commissioning two separate pieces of research on this: 1.

This specification relates to quantitative analysis involving estimating the number of people working in the gig economy and to examine their characteristics (outlined in this document) 2.

Qualitative analysis involving interviews with individuals who have found work in the gig economy is a separate strand of work which is outside the scope of this specification.

This mini competition invites bids to supply quantitative analysis in order to estimate the number of people working in the gig economy and to examine their characteristics.

We think this work would lend itself to inserting a small number of questions in to an existing survey.
